Seed Storage <\/strong><\/p>\n

Storage behavior of this species is orthodox; dry to 15-20% eRH and store at -20 \u00b0C.<\/p>\n

Germination<\/strong> requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n

The seeds of this species are not dormant. Sterilize seeds before placing on wet germination paper. Place seeds in 4\u00baC for two weeks, then germinate under a constant temperature of 25\u00baC or with an alternating temperature regime of 15\/20\u00baC (with an 8\/16hr photoperiod).<\/p>\n

Morphology<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fruit<\/strong>: The fruit is composed of 4 one-seeded nutlets.<\/p>\n

Seed<\/strong>: Round, dark to yellowish\/light brown<\/p>\n

Seed size: <\/strong>length: 1.3 to 1.4 mm; width: 1.1 to 1.2 mm<\/p>\n

Average 1000 seed weight: <\/strong>0.3-0.4 g<\/p>\n

Biological features<\/strong><\/p>\n

Life Form: <\/strong>A perennial, cushion shape subshrub, cespitose, 15 to 30 cm height, with abundant and hanging<\/em> branches.<\/p>\n

Flower type and pollination mechanism:<\/strong> Violet to purple flowers are tubular and 2-lipped (zygomorphic). They are arranged in a loose head inflorescence. Pollination is by both wind (anemophily) and insect (entomophily<\/em>).<\/p>\n

Time<\/strong> of<\/strong> flowering<\/strong>: May to Jun<\/p>\n

Time of seed ripening<\/strong>:\u00a0 May to July<\/p>\n

Seed dispersal methods:<\/strong> By wind and insects<\/p>\n

Geographical distribution in Iran: <\/strong>North, Northwest, and the center, mostly in the provinces of Azerbaijan, Mazandaran and Gilan.<\/p>\n
