Seed Storage<\/strong><\/p>\n

The storage behavior of this species is orthodox (desiccation-tolerant seeds); dry to 15-20% eRH and store at -20\u00b0C.<\/p>\n

Germination requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n

The seeds of this species are non-dormant. Sterilize seeds before placing them on wet germination paper. Then germinate under an alternating temperature regime of 15\/20\u00baC (the higher temperature for 16 hours of light and the lower one for 8 hours of dark).<\/p>\n

Morphology<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fruit:<\/strong> Nut<\/p>\n

Seed:<\/strong> Nutlets ovoid-ellipsoid, dorsal side convex, ventral side slightly angular with indistinct rib, areole (whitish hilum at the base) straight, bi-lobed. Surface indistinctly reticulate, dull, blackish-brown.<\/p>\n

Seed size<\/strong>: Length: 1.7-2.1 mm, width 1-1.4 mm in an accession from Bojnourd Khorasan with 1000 seed weight 0.8 g, which was collected in 2011 by Aliakbar Ameri the cultivated sample was identified by Ziba Jamehzad with accession number 30888.<\/p>\n

Life form<\/strong>: Perennial, stem erect, branched in the upper part.<\/p>\n

Inflorescence and flower type and pollination mechanisms: <\/strong>Inflorescence long pedunculate cyme, pedicel 10-20 mm long. Flowers hermaphrodite, zygomorphic, corolla purple-blue, 7-10 mm long. Plant monoecious, cross-pollinate. Pollination is carried out by insects.<\/p>\n

Flowering Period: <\/strong>Spring<\/p>\n

Time of seed ripening<\/strong>: Spring to early summer<\/p>\n

Seed dispersal methods: <\/strong>The seeds are displaced by weight.<\/p>\n

Geographical distribution:<\/strong> Europe, Iran, the Caucasus, Siberia, Central Asia. Typus from Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Distribution in Iran<\/strong>: North, West, and East.<\/p>\n
