Seed Storage<\/strong><\/p>\n

The storage behavior of this species is orthodox (desiccation-tolerant seeds); dry to 15-20% eRH and store at -20 \u00b0C.<\/p>\n

Germination requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n

The seeds of this species have non-deep dormancy. Sterilize seeds before placing them on wet germination paper. Place seeds 14 days in 4\u00baC for breaking dormancy. Then germinate under an alternating temperature regime of 15\/20 \u00baC (the higher temperature for 16 hours in light and the lower one for eight hours in dark).<\/p>\n

Fruit type:<\/strong> Achene,<\/p>\n

Fruit shape:<\/strong> Obpyramidal subcompressed, apex truncate or with crenate corona, base narrowed. Surface with longitudinal furrows, dull, pale- to dark brown.<\/p>\n

Fruit size:<\/strong> Length: 1 to 2 mm, width: 0.5 to 1 mm, diameter: 1 mm in an accession from Amol,\u00a0 Mazandaran with 1000 seed weight 0.2 g, which was collected in 2010 by Akbarzadeh and the cultivated sample was identified by S. Reza Safavi and Vlieollah Mozaffarian with accession number 9885.<\/p>\n

Biological features<\/strong><\/p>\n

Life form: <\/strong>Herbaceous, annual<\/p>\n

Inflorescences and flower type and pollination mechanisms<\/strong>: Inflorescences capitate, with a spherical receptacle, peduncle thickening. Ray flowers (about 20) female, often fertile, ligulate, ligule white, almost large, 10 mm long; disc flowers hermaphrodite, tubular, 4 mm long. Plant monoecious, cross-pollinate, in a failure of cross-pollination, self-pollination may take place. Pollination is carried out by insects and wind.<\/p>\n

Seed dispersal:<\/strong> The agent of seed distribution is seed weight.<\/p>\n
