Seed Storage<\/strong><\/p>\n

The storage behavior of this species is orthodox (desiccation-tolerant seeds); dry to 15-20% eRH and store at -20\u00b0C.<\/p>\n

Germination requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n

The seeds of this species have non-deep dormancy. Sterilize seeds before placing them on wet germination paper. Place seeds 14 days in 4\u00baC for breaking dormancy. Then germinate under an alternating temperature regime of 15\/20 \u00baC (the higher temperature for 16 hours in light and the lower one for eight hours in dark).<\/p>\n

Fruit type: Achene <\/strong><\/p>\n

Fruit shape<\/strong>: obovate, dorsal side convex, ventral slightly convex or flattish, apex truncate with rest of the style or without it. Surface with fine longitudinal furrows, dull or slightly lustrous, brown.<\/p>\n

Fruit size:<\/strong> Length: 1 to 2 mm, width: 0.5-1 mm in an accession from Qom with 1000 seed weight 0.3 g, was collected in 2005 and the cultivated sample was identified by Vlieollah Mozaffarian with accession number 22675.<\/p>\n

Biological features<\/strong><\/p>\n

Life Form: <\/strong>Herbaceous, perennial<\/p>\n

Inflorescences, flower type, and pollination mechanisms<\/strong>: Inflorescences capitates, with a corymbose arrangement. Ray flowers (6 to 8) female, ligulate, yellow; disc flowers (40 to 50) hermaphrodite, tubular. Plant monoecious, cross-pollinate, in failure of cross-pollination, self-pollination may take place. Pollination is carried out by insects and wind.<\/p>\n

Time<\/strong> of<\/strong> flowering<\/strong>: End of spring up to the middle of summer<\/p>\n

Time of seed ripening<\/strong>: Summer<\/p>\n

Seed dispersal methods:<\/strong> The agent of seed distribution is seed weight.<\/p>\n

Geographical distribution<\/strong>: <\/strong>Turkey, Iran and Caucasus, and Iraq. Typus from Gillan, Iran.<\/p>\n
