Seed Storage <\/strong><\/p>\n

Storage behavior of this species is orthodox (desiccation-tolerant seeds); dry to 15 to 20% eRH and store at -20\u00b0<\/sup>C.<\/p>\n

Germination<\/strong> requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n

The seeds of this species are non-dormant. Sterilize seeds before placing on wet germination paper or sand. Put them in 5 to 10 \u00b0<\/sup>C for 15 days to germinate uniformly. \u00a0Then germinate at 20\u00b0<\/sup>C under 16\/8(day\/night) hr. photoperiod.<\/p>\n

Morphology<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fruit <\/strong>type<\/strong>:<\/strong> Capsule, dehiscent by 6 triangular toothed opening<\/p>\n

Fruit shape:<\/strong> Ovoid, tightly enclosed in calyx<\/p>\n

Fruit size:<\/strong> Width 4 to 6 mm and length 11 to 16 mm<\/p>\n

Seed<\/strong> shape<\/strong>:<\/strong> Reniform to circular, laterally slightly compressed. Surface covered with shallow papillae, dull, brown to dark smoky-greyish.<\/p>\n

Seed size:<\/strong> Length 0.6. to 0.8 mm, width 0.5 to 0.7 mm in an accession with 1000 seeds weight 1.4 g., which was collected from Yazd, Shahedieh in 1998 and the cultivated sample was identified by Mostafa Asadi and is stored in the Natural Resources Gene Bank of Iran with the accession number 3079.<\/p>\n

Average 1000 seeds weight:<\/strong> 0.8 to 1.5 g<\/p>\n

Biological features<\/strong><\/p>\n

Life Form:<\/strong> Herbaceous, perennial. Stem erect, up to 80 cm height<\/p>\n

Inflorescence, flower type and pollination mechanism:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Inflorescence cyme, flowers pink to Purple. Plant monoecious, cross-pollinated. Pollination is carried out by both wind (anemophily) and insect (entomophily).<\/p>\n

Time<\/strong> of<\/strong> flowering:<\/strong> April-May<\/p>\n

Time of seed ripening:<\/strong> May-June<\/p>\n

Seed dispersal methods:<\/strong> Seed weight<\/p>\n

Geographical distribution:<\/strong> Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Typus from Mesopotamia<\/p>\n

Distribution in Iran: <\/strong>West, North West, South, East and Center. Mostly in provinces Zanjan, Fars, Kerman, Tehran and Sistan and Baluchestan<\/p>\n
