Seed Storage <\/strong><\/p>\n

The storage behavior of this species is orthodox (desiccation-tolerant seeds), dry to 15-20% eRH, and store at -20\u00b0C.<\/p>\n

Germination<\/strong> requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n

The seeds of this species have non-deep dormancy. Sterilize seeds before placing them on wet germination paper. Place seeds for two weeks at 4 \u00baC to germinate uniformly. Then germinate under an alternating temperature regime of 15\/20 \u00baC (the higher temperature for 16 hours in light and the lower one for eight hours in dark).<\/p>\n

Fruit type:<\/strong> Achene<\/p>\n

Fruit shape:<\/strong> Slightly cuneiform, slightly compressed, apex truncate, base slightly curved,\u00a0 narrowed to hilum, pappus deciduous. Surface glabrous, with incident reticulate, lusterless, greyish brown with black patterns<\/p>\n

Fruit <\/strong>size: <\/strong>length 4.03 to 4.97 mm, width 1.50 to 2.20 mm in an accession from Kabudarahang, Hamedan, with 1000 seed\/fruit weight 2.4 g, which was collected in 2019 by Mohammad Mahmoodi and Yusof Ajani and is stored in the Natural Resources Gene Bank of Iran with the accession number 47769.<\/p>\n

Biological<\/strong> features<\/strong><\/p>\n

Life form: <\/strong>Prennial, subshrub, spiny. Stems erect, 20 to 45 cm height<\/p>\n

Inflorescence, flower type, and pollination mechanism:<\/strong> Capitula arranged as corymb-like inflorescence, capitulum discoid, with 4 to 7 florets, 11 mm in long, color yellow, involucral bracts multiseriate. \u200cPlant monoecious, \u200ccross-pollinated. Pollination is carried out by insects and wind.<\/p>\n

Time of seed ripening:<\/strong> Mid-summer<\/p>\n

Seed dispersal methods:<\/strong> Seed weight<\/p>\n

Geographical distribution<\/strong>:<\/strong> Iran and possibly Iraq. Typus from the Syrian Desert, but probably from Iran<\/p>\n

Distribution in Iran:<\/strong> Northwest, West and Center. Mostly in provinces Azarbayjan, Hamadan, Kermanshah, Lorestan, Isfahan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Tehran and Fars<\/p>\n
