Seed Storage

The storage behavior of this species is orthodox (desiccation-tolerant seeds), dry to 15 to 20% eRH, and store at -20°C.

Germination requirements

The seeds of this species are not dormant. Sterilize seeds before placing them on wet germination paper. Place seeds for two weeks at 4 ºC to germinate uniformly. Then germinate under an alternating temperature regime of 15/20 ºC (the higher temperature for 16 hours in light and the lower one for eight hours in dark).

Morphology

Fruit type: Silicle, dehiscent

Fruit shape: Ovate to orbicular, not compressed, beaked, glabrous, 2-seeded

Fruit size: Length 10 mm

Seed shape: Orbicular-elliptical, radicle furrow distinct, wingless, is not mucilaginous when moistened. Surface glabrous, indistinct reticulate, olive brown

Seed size: Length 2.58 to 3.25 mm, width 1.87 to 2.35 mm in an accession from Zanjan, with 1000 seeds weight 4.2 g, which was collected and identified in 2017 by Mohammad Mahmoodi and Ali Bagheri, and is stored in the Natural Resources Gene Bank of Iran with the accession number 46591.

Average 1000 seed weight: 3.8 to 4.7 g
