Seed Storage
The storage behavior of this species is orthodox (desiccation-tolerant seeds); dry to 15-20 % eRH and stored at -20 °C.
Germination requirements
The seeds of this species show non-deep dormancy. Sterilize seeds before placing them on wet germination paper. Then germinate under an alternating temperature regime of 15/25 ºC (the higher temperature for 16 hours of light and the lower one for 8 hours of dark).
Morphology
Fruit/seed: Achene
Fruit/seed shape: Achenes ellipsoid, areole bi-lobed, surface with rounded tubercles, dark brown.
Fruit/seed size: Length 1.7-1.74 mm, and width 0.98-1.03 mm in an accession from Marvdasht, Fars with 1000 seed/fruit weight 1.2 g, which was collected and identified in 2018 by Zeraatkar with an accession number 46890.
Average 1000 seed/fruit weight: 1.2 g
Biological features
Life form: Annual, herbaceous, stem erect, unbranched, or branched from the base
Inflorescence, flower type, and pollination mechanisms: Inflorescence dichasia along the stem. Flowers hermaphrodite, zygomorphic, corolla reddish pink, 10-17 mm long, covered with scattered hairs. Plant monoecious, cross-pollinated. Pollination is carried out by insects, especially bees.
