Seed Storage

The storage behavior of this species is orthodox (desiccation-tolerant seeds), dry to 15 to 20% eRH, and store at -20°C.

Germination requirements

The seeds of this species are not dormant. Sterilize seeds before placing them on wet germination paper. Place seeds for two weeks at 4 ºC to germinate uniformly. Then germinate under an alternating temperature regime of 15/20 ºC (the higher temperature for 16 hours in light and the lower one for eight hours in dark).

Morphology

Fruit type: Silicle

Fruit shape: Elliptic-orbicular, compressed, beaked, wings broad, 5 to 6 mm wide, prominently veined, folded longitudinally, margin entire, 3 to 4 seeded, dehiscent

Fruit size: Length 15 to 18 mm, width 14 to 20 mm

Seed shape: Prolonged Elliptic, base and apex narrowed, apex roundish. Surface fine undulate, faint lustrous, brown

Seed size: Length 1.31 to 2.22 mm, width 0.51 to 1.12 mm in an accession from Damavand, Tehran with 1000 seeds weight 0.3 g, which was collected and identified in 2016 by Valiollah Mozaffarian, and is stored in the Natural Resources Gene Bank of Iran with the accession number 45906.

Average 1000 seed weight: 0.3 to 3.6 g
