Seed Storage
The storage behavior of this species is orthodox (desiccation-tolerant seeds); dry to 15-20% eRH and store at -20°C.
Germination requirements
The seeds of this species are non-dormant. Sterilize seeds before placing them on wet germination paper. Then germinate under an alternating temperature regime of 15/20ºC (the higher temperature for 16 hours of light and the lower one for 8 hours of dark).
Morphology
Fruit: Nut
Seed: Nutlets, ellipsoid-oblong, dorsal side convex, ventral side curved to angular with indistinct rib, areole (whitish hilum at the base) straight, bi-lobed. Surface indistinctly tuberculated, dull, dark brown.
Seed size: Length: 2-2.1 mm, width: 1-1.2 mm in an accession from Karaj, Tehran with 1000 seed weight 1.52 g, which was collected in 2011 by Ghamghami, and the cultivated sample was identified by Ziba Jamehzad with accession number 35005.
1000 seed weight: 1.52 g.
