Seed Storage

The storage behavior of this species is orthodox (desiccation-tolerant seeds), dry to 15 to 20% eRH, and store at -20°C.

Germination requirements

The seeds of this species are not dormant. Sterilize seeds before placing them on wet germination paper. Place seeds for two weeks at 0 to 4 ºC – germinate uniformly. Then germinate under an alternating temperature regime of 15/20 ºC (the higher temperature for 16 hours in light and the lower one for eight hours in dark).

Morphology

Fruit type: Silicle

Fruit shape: Elliptic to obovoid, widely winged, apex emarginated to obtuse, beaked, round at the base or sometimes cuneate, glabrous, loculus smooth or wrinkled, each contains one seed, with a dehiscent and sterile loculus under the fertile loculus

Fruit size: Length 14 to 23 mm، width 11 to 21 mm

Seed shape: Ovoid, apex narrowed, bottom truncate, radicular furrow distinct. Surface faint reticulate, orange-brown

Seed size: Length 3.17 to 3.78 mm, width 2.02 to 2.93 mm in an accession from Beshagard, Hormozgan, with 1000 seeds weight 68 g, which was collected and identified in 2016 by Mohammadamin Soltanipour, and is stored in the Natural Resources Gene Bank of Iran with the accession number 45854.

Average 1000 seed weight: 28 to 68 g
